The Seven Senses of Self Development everybody should start sensing

The path towards success and personal satisfaction goes through self-development. Self-development is what we do to make ourselves better. It could be in any way such as giving up a bad habit, learning a new skill, practicing a new hobby, learning a new language, etc. Most of the successful work very hard when it comes to self-development. We all have some kind of flaws, working on these flaws and making ourselves better is what we can call self-development. Self-development is a never-ending process. Every time there is a possibility of making oneself better and skilled. The important thing for us is developing a sense of self-development. Once you have known about these senses, the path to your self-development comes closer. Let us have a look at these 7 senses of self-development.

1. Sense of self

Self-improvement initiates with our understanding of who we are, what are our values, what are our goals and beliefs. True satisfaction can only be procured by chasing our dreams. Our personal life, professional life and people around us could be harsher and insensitive, so we have to remind ourselves that we are not what people opine about us, and continue our journey of pursuing what is meaningful for us.

Our life experiences can have meaning only if we strive to understand them. To be a true learner in life we have to always be ready to learn. Learn from everything around. We should examine how we can use our life experiences for our greater self-knowledge. As we gain a more solid sense of our identity, we become ready to start planning, designing and pursuing our own identified goals.

2. Sense of curiosity

To live successfully we should need to embrace a curious approach towards life. We should be curious about how our life is going to unfold in the future. It is very necessary to have a quenchable thirst for our advancement and our adventure. Curiosity inspires us to push through the unusually painful trials and errors of our personal and professional life. This type of resiliency is acquired self-discipline that teaches us to cast our fears aside bringing us to the fullest experience of the adventures, success can bring.

Curiosity creates a desire to know more and do more. It inspires that energy which makes it possible to see all situations as opportunities for our advancement. When we approach life and business with a sense of adventure, there is no situation, however limiting, physically or economically, which cannot be filled to the brim with the interest and curiosity of how it will all work out. This sense of curiosity helps to grow.

3. Sense of direction

The more we develop ourselves the more immaculate we become in achieving what we want. This clarity makes decision-making easier for us because having a direction improves our ability to prioritize. We know which objectives are important in the short term and which are necessary for the long term. With a sense of direction, we become focused and effective.

Direction provides commitment. It is arduous to commit to something that has no foreseeable future or path. If we are filled with doubt and a lack of clarity there is no way to launch our ideas. Self-development gives us direction, and thereby, the commitment to achieve our goals.

4. Sense of follow through

Knowing what we want to achieve in life makes it easier for us to see the benefits of taking action. Even when the tasks at hand are not enjoyable, seeing the benefit of following through on them, will make it easier to motivate ourselves into taking the necessary actions to achieve our set goals. There is so much truth in the saying, “When there is a will there’s a way”.

When we are committed to personal development, we tend to find a way to develop the necessary will. Our idea of success and the vision of what that will look like is where we grab our initiative to follow through.

5. Sense of urgency

A sense of urgency drives inspiration. Urgency creates the mindset to work as if our life depends upon it, especially if we have fewer resources than others. When we are the underdogs we will dig deep inside ourselves for the advances we need to thrive.

Urgency causes us to act quickly when making decisions. We get out of our routine and do something different. It motivates us to get results quickly and efficiently, but it does not eliminate assessment. If we want to get results faster we must assess what is working and what is not working, then we should eliminate the efforts which have been identified as wasteful. We should keep in mind, it is easier to steer a moving object, so if we realize we have made a poor decision, a sense of urgency allows us to adjust. If we wait too long we miss opportunities and chances.

6. Sense of resiliency

There will be tough times in life and business. When tough times occur, we need the skills and attributes to deal effectively with them. Personal development cannot prevent all bad things from occurring but it helps us deal with obstacles as they surface.

Resiliency teaches us never to take any challenge as the end of the world. Resilience allows us the patience, awareness, and fortitude to continue moving forward, even if that means completely changing course.

Self-development deepens our maturity to trust that everything happens for reasons which can only be in line with our best interest. With this type of mindset, no obstacle will hold us back. We will have greater confidence, flexibility, and the personal and interpersonal skills to cope with any obstacle we face in climbing the ladder of success.

7. Sense of connectedness

Relationships can be double-edged swords. They either lift us or drag us down. They either bring us closer to our goals or push us further away. When we work on our personal development, we can see which relationships and partnerships are worth investing in and which we need to cut loose. This type of self-awareness gives us the skills to make the best of the relationships which have a positive impact on our life, our business and our overall success.

If we aren’t learning then we aren’t living. We should commit to invest in our greatest resource – Us. The greatest achievers in life and business know the key to success is their ability to manage themselves in a variety of situations. That ability comes through personal development.
